Patina
Much of the beauty of old paintings lies in the visual effects of ageing Surface blemishes such as flaking, degradation of the grounds, dulling and changes of hues as a result of chemical change. Once art is created it begins to deteriorate, albeit with differing timescales; in essence its aesthetics are transient and forever changing.
This series of paintings are based on vignets of old masters. Each painting has its own uniqueness born from its construction and depiction. The audience is prompted to speculate about the origin and life of the panels which show evidence of age. From this stance the viewer gains a fresh perspective on a faded and fading past.
